Continuous Tracking of Infinite Points
Documenting an ephemeral intervention so it is not lost.
Mauricio Espinoza made the documentary record of one version of “Seguimiento Continuo de Infinitos Puntos…” (“Continuous Tracking of Infinite Points”), a work by composer and sound artist Sebastián Jatz. This version took place in Valdivia in 2015, as an intervention in public space with citizen participation.
The authorship of the record is documented in an academic article published in Música Hodie (2023), which explicitly refers to this audiovisual record. That it has lasted, and been cited since, shows that audiovisual work can sustain memory, research and access long after the original intervention.
The work is a sound performance that has been staged in different cities: “Seguimiento Continuo de Infinitos Puntos” had, for example, a fifth staging in Frutillar on 23 January 2016, when around twenty local children walked along Carlos Richter street, between Frutillar Alto and Frutillar Bajo, each sounding the frequency Bb 932 Hz. That staging is archived at Proyecto SONEC.
What this work contributes
- Audiovisual documentation of cultural events.
- Record of territory and citizen participation.
- Material that gains documentary and memory value over time.
